Ah, another new day and a new iPhone for you world. Apple has unveiled yesterday, 10th September 2013 two new flagship phones, the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C.
As per Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, the iPhone 5 was the most loved iPhone in Apple's history and had the most successful selling spree in its first year. This is perhaps, why, the world needs not one iPhone but two new ones this year. Namely the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.
The iPhone 5S is considered the most powerful of the two models with the 5C being an entry level of the range.
The iPhone 5S
The iPhone 5S is redefined in three metal finishes namely Silver, Gold and "Spicy Gray". As reports suggest, the phone is made of high grade aluminium with chamfered edges.
The iPhone 5S uses a 64-bit A7 SOAC(System-on-a-chip) processor from Apple and as of today, is the first and only smartphone to use a 64-bit processor as its core.
Apple confirms that the A7 Chip uses desktop class architecture, meaning it's not very much different from your desktops having x64 bit support, the likes of Intel i5s and i7s. The A7 chip is reported to be the same size of the A6 one.
The iOS7 now supports a native 64-bit kernel meaning all built-in apps originally from Apple have been re-engineered for 64-bit which also means faster performance for every app endorsed by Apple. Third party developers should also find it easy to integrate their apps for the iPhone 5S in the foreseeable future.
The A7 chip is considered to be 2x faster than A6 chip and should pretty much excel in graphic and gaming applications. The iPhone 5s, thus suggests to be 40x faster than the original iPhone. This is quite a feat, considering the aesthetics of the phone.
The iPhone 5s, Fingerprint Scanner - Touch ID
The iPhone 5S supports a new security feature - A nifty fingerprint scanner for you all embedded right into the home button. Apparently, the sensor can read fingerprints with outstanding precision and will support multiple fingers(multigestures?).
The potential to this is unlimited. You will never have to unlock your phone by tapping in your passcode and who knows, shopping online or protecting your children from different apps can be integrated soon enough with a flick of your fingerprints.
Touch ID uses your fingerprint to gain access to your phone. It does this by reading the fingerprint at an amazingly detailed level using the Touch ID sensor. Touch ID scans sub-epidermal skin layers with 360 degrees of readability—meaning you can hold your finger in any direction or orientation.
You can simply tap the Home button to unlock your iPhone. You can then use the Touch ID to authenticate yourself anywhere you'd otherwise need to provide your Apple ID password as well.
The iPhone 5S Camera
As expected, the iPhone 5S boasts a much improved camera with a new five element, Apple designed lens with a much bigger 2.2 aperture and 15% larger active sensor zone with a 1.5 microns pixels on the sensor. Forger the technical jargon, the more densely packed pixels will lead to better pictures and it also boasts a new True Tone Flash.
The iPhone 5S camera also adds automatic image stabilization. It practically combines simultaneous multiple photos in real time and stabilizes and sharpen them. The Camera also includes a new burst mode as well. Also, a new slo-mo feature allows shooting 120 frames per second in High definition(HD).
A new motion co-processor called the M7 continually measures motion data from the iPhone's accelerometer, gyroscope and compass without making use of the A7 chip. This would enable faster and better fitness, location and geo based apps in the future and would probably result in decreased battery usage.
The iPhone 5S battery's life is considered to be the same as the previous gen, iPhone 5 with an expected 10 hours of 3G talk time / LTE browsing.
The iPhone 5C
The iPhone 5C is the little brother of the iPhone 5S and is available in a variety of colors: blue, green, white, pink, and yellow.
The fronts of the phones are black, while all the rest of the body uses the new color, including the buttons and switches.
On powering on the iPhone 5C, the default wallpaper is color matched to the colour of the phone's body.
The iPhone 5C, unlike the 5S, is made of a hard-coated polycarbonate, with a steel-reinforced structure for incredible rigidity. The phone uses the iPhone 5's 4-inch Retina display. It's powered by an A6 chip, and offers higher-capacity battery performance, with a larger battery than the original iPhone 5. And it offers an 8MP iSight camera.
On the front, the iPhone 5C supports a new improved FaceTime HD camera . And the phone supports more LTE bands than any other smartphone in the world, according to Apple.
